Steve Spurrier Believes The SEC Should Acquire Florida State
The conference realignment meter has been kicked back up to 'sizzling' over the last couple of weeks, especially after a Board of Trustees meeting in Tallahassee where Florida State fired a final warning shot to the ACC.

The Seminoles have made it clear that they have been forced to explore their options elsewhere. The rising revenue gap between the SEC and Big Ten compared to other conferences has simply become too much to battle.
During a recent interview with Mike Bianchi on the Open Mike, former Florida and South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier made it clear which side of the fence he sits on. He thinks it would be good if the SEC added Florida State alongside Miami or Clemson.
Spurrier made a cheeky remark about the Seminoles possibly joining the conference when Bobby Bowden was head coach before offering his opinion.
"You know, I think they had a chance back right before they joined the ACC to maybe come into the SEC," Spurrier said. "I remember Bobby Bowden said, 'I don't want to play that schedule.' Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia. Of course, their schedule was tough enough since they played us and Miami. That made their schedule plenty difficult.
"Anyway, I used to sit back and say 'how come Alabama and Tennessee are not playing FSU like what we have to every year' because in the 90s, Nebraska was actually the winningest program in the county and FSU was second," Spurrier continued. "I mean, those guys, they had ball players all over the place. I think we were third and then Tennessee and Miami were after that back in the 90s."
"If they come into the SEC, heck, that would be good I think and maybe bring Miami or Clemson I guess would be the other one that would be a possibility," Spurrier added.
Spurrier finished 5-8-1 against Florida State during his 12 years with Florida. The Seminoles defeated the Gators in runs to the national title in 1993 and 1999. Spurrier added another loss to his resume at the hands of FSU, albeit by former head coach Jimbo Fisher, during the 2010 Chick-Fil-A Bowl when he was at South Carolina.
Florida State has to declare its intentions to the ACC by August 15 if the program intends to change conferences by the 2024 season. The SEC (Texas, Oklahoma) and Big Ten (USC, UCLA) are both scheduled to expand next year. It would make sense to make all of the moves at once.
