Two Florida State Greats Trade Barbs on Social Media

Deion Sanders couldn't help but respond after being criticized for his comments surrounding Florida State.

Former Florida State star cornerback and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders will never shy away from the spotlight. In fact, he earned the nickname "Primetime" for many reasons, being an NFL Hall of Fame defensive back is one of them.

Sanders spent four seasons at Florida State from 1985-1988, where he was a two-time All-American before being taken fifth overall in the NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. So, it is a little strange for the head coach to claim he isn't a Seminole as he did earlier in the week in a press conference as the Buffaloes prepare for a week one matchup against TCU.

"No, no, no, no, no. Actually, do you know where I graduated from?" Sanders said when a reporter referred to him as a 'Nole.

Apparently, Sanders' lack of interest in being associated with FSU didn't sit well with some Alumni, as former FSU star quarterback and CBS analyst Danny Kanell took to Twitter in response.

"Wow. The lack of respect for the school that gave him his start is wild. The same school that retired his jersey. The same school that let him be Prime. There is a way to handle this question and this ain’t it."

Unable to let the situation go unchecked, Sanders spat back, furthering the speculation that there is a history of friction between himself and FSU.

"My man ain't Nobody let me be me! I was Him and still is," Sanders said in a recent tweet. "Your jersey only get retired if you're a Dogg and 1 of the greatest ever and I was. Ain't nobody give me nothing, I took it and earned it. Stay out of Grown folks business u have no idea what is what. The Truth hurts my man. I got time!"

Regardless of the situation, Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes are set to take on the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs on September 2 for the first game of the season and the first game under coach Prime.
