WATCH: Trey Benson Pulls Off Hat Trick With Electric Touchdown Run

FSU running back Trey Benson matched Keon Coleman with a hat trick in the second game of the season.

So far into the Seminoles short season, Keon Coleman has, by far, stood out as the most electric player on offense. There is competition, however, with Johnny Wilson capable of matching that and Trey Benson getting things going on the ground.

After a marginal win over LSU in Week 1, the Seminoles were carrying all the momentum heading into their matchup against Southern Miss.

Coleman showed some electric plays in the first half, but it was Benson scoring touchdowns, picking up two before halftime. In the team's first drive of the second half, Benson scored a 42-yard touchdown to put the Seminoles up 38-3.

Benson had 47 yards on 12 touches in the matchup against LSU, an average of 3.9 yards per carry. Tonight, he's completely flipped that switch. His 79 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries will allow Benson to build momentum heading into next week.

Now, the redshirt junior is close to Coleman on total touchdowns this season. Coleman has scored four touchdowns to Benson's three. The two are going to continue putting up electric plays in different aspects of offense, making the Seminoles that much harder to guard.

While playing an inferior opponent, it's still important for Benson to play similarly to how he did during his breakout season last year.
