WATCH: Trey Benson Scores His First Touchdown Of The 2023 Season
Florida State enters its Week 2 matchup against Southern Miss with all the momentum created by a dominating win over LSU, who was ranked No. 5 at the time. They're proving to be the much better team early, as they put up two straight touchdowns over Southern Miss.
The first score marked Darion Williamson's first career touchdown, which came on a ten-yard pass from Jordan Travis.
The defense came up with a stop, which was then met with a long drive from the Seminoles. They were forced to fourth down on three separate occasions, however, the drive ended in a 19-yard rushing touchdown from Trey Benson.
The first two fourth downs were five yards or longer to go, and Travis scrambled for plenty of time, evading multiple defensive linemen, before converting both tries. The next time, as seen in the video, the Seminoles ran Benson on fourth and one.
This was Benson's first touchdown of the season. He didn't score in the matchup against LSU. He had a breakout season last year after transferring from Oregon. His 990 rushing yards last season carried plenty of expectations into this season.
He's going to be a top running back in the nation and has punctuated that with two touchdowns in the first half against Southern Miss.
In total, Benson sits with 7 seven carries for 34 yards and two touchdowns with 7:42 remaining in the second quarter.
