Former FSU Running Back Working Out for Minnesota Vikings After Stint In XFL

The former Seminole is hoping to get back into the NFL after being one of the leading rushers in the XFL.

Former Florida State running back Jacques Patrick is working out for the Minnesota Vikings, according to NBC’s Aaron Wilson. Patrick was with the Denver Broncos in March but was waived by the team in June. The Vikings could potentially be looking to add a running back as projected starter Alexander Mattison suffered a minor injury this week, and the team released Dalvin Cook earlier in the offseason.

Patrick last played with the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas, rushing for 443 yards and five touchdowns in 10 games, and was let go from his contract once he signed with the Broncos. He hasn’t taken a snap in the NFL since 2021 in an appearance with the San Francisco 49ers, where he received two carries for 12 yards.

While at Florida State, he rushed for 1,779 yards and 17 touchdowns in his four years, often splitting carries with Dalvin Cook, Cam Akers, and other running backs. His best season came in his junior year as Patrick rushed for 735 yards and seven TDs while averaging well over five yards per carry.

After releasing Dalvin Cook earlier in the off-season, the Vikings were initially thought to be taking their current group of Mattison, Kene Nwangwu, Ty Chandler, and DeWayne McBride into the season. Still, Patrick working out means the Vikings at least have some interest in adding to the room.
