Report: Former FSU Star Dalvin Cook and Minnesota Likely to Part Ways

There will be multiple teams interested in the Pro-Bowl running back.

Former Florida State star running back Dalvin Cook was a part of numerous trade rumors leading up NFL Draft, and those rumors continue to swirl heading further into the off-season. Cook is coming off recent shoulder surgery in February and has three years left on his contract worth roughly $34 million with the Vikings.

ESPN's NFL insider Dianna Russini reported on Thursday that "all signs point to" the two parties going in different directions regarding the upcoming season for the 27-year-old.

This aligns with the seeming consensus opinion on the former All-American, as ESPN insider Adam Schefter stated earlier that there are multiple uncertainties surrounding his future in Minnesota. "I think there is some real question as to whether or not he will be in Minnesota this upcoming season," said Schefter. "I think it's fair to say his future is in question."

Most of the discussion regarding his future revolves around the salary cap constraints that the Vikings are approaching and his overall health. Cook is slated to earn $10.4 million in 2023, expected to rise to $11.9 million in 2024 and $12.9 million the following year. However, only $2 million of his 2023 salary is guaranteed.

The Pro Bowler rushed for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. This marked the fourth time he surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in his career. There has been considerable interest from several teams, including the Miami Dolphins, who have been rumored to be discussing a potential trade with the Vikings involving Cook.
