Los Angeles Chargers Sign Former Florida State Wide Receiver to UDFA Deal

The former Seminole will begin his professional career on the West Coast.

Only one former Seminole - safety Jammie Robinson - was selected during the 2023 NFL Draft. That means a large crop of former Florida State standouts are looking for opportunities as undrafted free agents to begin their respective professional careers.

Shortly after the action in Kansas City wrapped up on Saturday evening, wide receiver Ontaria Wilson agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to his agent.

Wilson joins a perennial playoff team in Los Angeles that has multiple former Seminoles on its roster including All-Pro safety Derwin James, cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., and kicker Dustin Hopkins. He'll be competing with two of the best wide receivers in the league - Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. It'll be imperative for Wilson to set himself apart with his ability to play on special teams.

The Georgia native spent six seasons at Florida State during arguably the most tumultuous period in program history. Wilson played for three different head coaches, five different offensive coordinators, and three different wide receivers coaches during his time in Tallahassee. Regardless, he stuck with the Seminoles and ended up being a consistent starter and performer.

The 6-foot, 175-pound wide receiver led Florida State in receiving in 2020 and 2021 before recording a career-high 495 yards this past season. Wilson tied his career-high with seven catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns in a one-point victory against LSU in New Orleans. In total, he appeared in 51 games, with 36 starts, and caught 108 passes for 1,521 yards and 12 touchdowns through the air while rushing seven times for 57 yards and another score on the ground with the Seminoles.

Wilson is an explosive athlete that could find a role at the next level. He ran a 4.4 40-yard dash during Florida State's Pro Day in March.
