San Antonio Spurs Call Up Former FSU Basketball Standout

Two former Seminole standouts are reuniting in San Antonio.

Former Florida State Basketball forward RaiQuan "Turk" Gray has been signed to a two-way contract by the San Antonio Spurs for the remainder of the season, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. Gray had been playing for the Spurs' G-League affiliate in Austin, Texas, where he'd been averaging 15.0 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 3.0 APG while shooting 62.9% from the floor.

To make space for Gray, the Spurs waived former Virginia Cavalier Mamadi Diakite, who had just been signed to a two-way contract in early January. Gray will now be teaming up with his former Florida State teammate Devin Vassell, who is second on the team in scoring at 19.3 PPG.

For those unfamiliar with how two-way contracts work, players on these deals get to spend a maximum of 45 days with the NBA team, but will have to be brought back down to the G-League affiliate throughout the season. With just a little over two months left in the regular season, there's a chance Gray spends most of his time with San Antonio, but will likely play with the G-League affiliate in Austin if they make the playoffs.

Gray spent four seasons at Florida State from 2017-2021 but broke onto the scene as a redshirt junior, where he averaged 11.9 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 2.2 APG. He'd declare for the 2021 NBA Draft, where he was selected with the 59th overall pick, the second-to-last pick in the Draft, by the Brooklyn Nets. His selection came just two picks behind another former Seminole, Balsa Koprivica. Gray did play one game with the Nets at the end of the 2022-23 season, where he put up 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists in 35 minutes.
