Tennessee Titans Sign Former Florida State Running Back To Two-Year Deal

A familiar path for the former Seminole as he lands an NFL deal following a stint in the XFL for the second time in his professional career.

The beginning of the week probably gave former Florida State running back Jacques Patrick a feeling of Déjà vu. After all, he's been in this exact same scenario before in his professional career.

On Monday, the Tennessee Titans signed Patrick to a two-year deal according to his agent Paul Aloise. He's coming off a successful stint in the XFL where he finished second in the league in rushing with 443 yards and five touchdowns. Patrick was at his best down the stretch of the season, scoring four of his five touchdowns during the final three games, including a season-high 96 yards and a score in a loss to Houston.

This is the second time in his professional career that he's landed an NFL deal after playing in the XFL. Patrick signed a three-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020 after ranking third in the league in rushing with the Tampa Bay Vipers.

The Florida native signed a contract with the Denver Broncos over the summer but was released leading up to training camp. He's also spent time at the NFL level with the Bengals, San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, and Baltimore Ravens. Most of his time was on the practice squad but he did get promoted to the 53-man roster for two games with the 49ers where he rushed two times for 12 yards.

The Titans have five other running backs under contract outside of Patrick, including All-Pro Derek Henry, Tyjae Spears, Jonathan Ward, Hassan Haskins, and Julius Chestnut. He'll be vying for a spot in the back end of the rotation or the practice squad.

Patrick spent four years at Florida State where he played for former head coaches Jimbo Fisher and Willie Taggart. He spent the first half of his time in Tallahassee playing behind Dalvin Cook and the latter half splitting carries with rising star Cam Akers.

The 6-foot-2, 234-pound running back is ranked in the top 20 in program history in rushing touchdowns (tied for 15) and rushing yards (16). He appeared in 45 games, with 13 starts, totaling 366 attempts for 1,790 yards with 17 touchdowns on the ground while catching 47 passes for 356 yards and a score during his time at Florida State.

Patrick's best season with the Seminoles came in 2017 when he appeared in 11 games and started nine. He finished the year with a career-high 134 rushes for 748 yards and seven touchdowns. Patrick recorded 155 yards and two touchdowns in a victory against ULM that sent the program to a bowl game.
