BREAKING: Top-100 Safety Announces Decommitment from Florida State

The Seminoles lose a pledge from their second-longest standing commitment in Tribe24.

Florida State's recruiting class is beginning to unfold as the end of the spring draws closer. The Seminoles are in the process of narrowing their board and scheduling official visits as the coaching staff eyes a strong close to the summer.

On Wednesday night, four-star safety Jordan Pride announced on social media that he was backing off his pledge to Florida State. Pride was the second-longest standing commitment in the class behind five-star running back Kam Davis and originally chose the Seminoles in July of 2021 following a summer camp.

"First off, I want to thank coach Norvell, the whole Florida State staff for giving me the opportunity, and showing so much love. Was a hard choice, but with that being said, I will be reopening my recruitment."

This recruitment has been trending in the opposite direction ever since Pride transferred to IMG Academy last year. He ended up making his way back to Blountstown High School at the end of his junior season but only visited Florida State three times dating back to October. To put it in perspective, Tallahassee is less than an hour's drive from Blountstown. In the meantime, Pride was displaying a lot of interest in rival Florida.

The Florida native visited Gainesville in January and also recently earned an offer from Ole Miss. He's previously been offered by programs such as Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M, and Miami.

Despite holding two safety commitments at the beginning of the year, the Seminoles focused on expanding the board. That effort could now pay off with Pride moving on as Florida State has gained traction with prospects such as four-star Ricardo Jones, four-star Jalewis Solomon, four-star Jarvis Boatwright, four-star Travaris Banks, four-star Zavier Mincey, and three-star Chalil Cummings through the offseason. Jones is one of the team's top targets in the recruiting cycle.

With the loss of Pride, Florida State's 2024 recruiting cycle sits at eight verbal commitments and falls to No. 9 in the country according to 247Sports. The Seminoles still hold a pledge from three-star safety CJ Heard and will probably be looking for another prospect or two to add alongside him.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound safety is regarded as the No. 86 overall prospect, the No. 6 safety, and the No. 13 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
