Five-Star DL LJ McCray Announces Decision Between FSU, Florida, Miami, And Others

One of the top remaining uncommitted prospects has finally made his decision.

The recruiting board has dwindled throughout the year and now Florida State is down to the final couple of spots in its 2024 class. The Seminoles have been focused on a diverse group of prospects that could fill an array of different needs in Tallahassee.

On Saturday, one of the top remaining uncommitted prospects in the country finally made his decision. Five-star defensive lineman LJ McCray announced his commitment to Florida over a final five that included Florida State, Miami, Auburn, and Georgia.

This is a disappointing conclusion to a recruitment that the Seminoles invested a lot of resources into. Plus, Florida State got the opportunity to make the final impression on McCray after hosting him for an official visit earlier in October.

Coming out of the trip, it seemed like the program had improved its standing with McCray but it didn't end up being enough to sway him away from the Gators.

"I mean they've always been up there," McCray said to NoleGameday previously. "I definitely wouldn't be taking an official visit if I wasn't really serious about it. It was just getting up here and seeing it one last time before I make my decision."

The Florida native visited Florida State twice over the offseason and was also in attendance for the season-opening win over LSU. He's recorded 36 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and seven sacks during his senior season at Mainland High School.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive lineman is regarded as the No. 6 overall prospect, the No. 2 DL, and the No. 3 prospect in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.

The Seminoles have one edge prospect committed in the class in four-star DD Holmes. The coaching staff will turn their attention to recruits such as five-star defensive lineman Armondo Blount, four-star defensive tackle Artavius Jones, and three-star defensive end Lugard Edokpayi.

Florida State holds 21 commitments in its 2024 class which ranks No. 6 in the country according to 247Sports.
