One of those prospects was class of 2024 four-star wide receiver and FSU commit Elijah Moore who worked out with the 'Noles on Saturday. The 6-foot-4.5, 200-pound receiver was part of a flurry of commitments (11) that joined #Tribe24 in the month of July after he was offered back in 2021. Moore said that he loves being at FSU and that he felt his class was special.
"I love it, you know what I'm saying? I feel like we're going to bring a National Championship back to FSU. We're naturally a National Championship school, so this class is special," Moore said. "The team they got right now going into the next season is special, so we got some big things coming up."
Florida State opens the season against the LSU Tigers on September 3 in Orlando, Florida. It is expected to be a high-profile rematch of the 24-25 instant classic victory for the Seminoles a season ago. It stands to reason that the 2023 matchup will be no different, as both programs enter the season as top teams in the country. Moore said that he is trying to go to at least two games throughout the year and that LSU, along with Miami, were the ones he'd like to watch.
"I'm trying to get to two home games this season. If I can come to more I definitely will but, the LSU game and probably the Miami game."
Moore would go on to reiterate his commitment to FSU and expressed his plans on being an early enrollee after his senior year at Good Counsel in Olney, Maryland. When asked about whether or not he's considering other programs that were battling for his talents, he said that he's a Seminole.
"Nah. I'm a Seminole, and I'm ready to play. I'm working on enrolling early, so that's the goal."
His relationship with wide receivers coach Ron Dugans seems to be a playful one. When Moore arrived on Saturday they were laughing with each other and as he passed through the doors at the Moore Athletic Center, he sighed and said, "home sweet home."
"I got an opportunity to work out with coach Dugans today, so I feel great."
During the interview, Dugans, strolling through the crowd of campers, jokingly said, "This dude is soft." as he passed by drawing a laugh from Moore.
"He's always pushing me to get better, you know what I'm saying? He walks past you, 'scrub, scrub,' you know what I'm saying? It makes me work harder. He's gonna push me. I wanna be pushed. That's why I came here."
Our Lady of Good Counsel High has championship aspirations. They're ranked fourth in the state of Maryland according to MaxPreps.com and are coming off as a runner-up for State in 2021. With his high school career ending, Moore said that he's focused on that championship and heading to college.
"Just to work on my craft and to get better. I'm not really worried about my high school career. I'm ready to get my high school championship, but I'm also trying to get ready for college."
One sentiment that has been reflected over and over again with players who decide to play at Florida State is that they always feel at home. For the talented route runner, it is no different.
"It just feels like home. Every time I come here it just feels like home. It's unexplainable, when I get here it always feels like I'm at my second home. It feels great whenever I get down here."
Moore said that he will continue to work on his craft and prepare for suiting up in garnet and gold at the next level. He's paying close attention to the players around him and welcomes the coaching from Dugans.
"Just working on my craft. Training like a pro, you know what I'm saying? So once I get to college, I'll be ahead of my game, and definitely just watching what the receivers here and now are doing and taking notes from coach Dugans."
Moore is the No. 35 wide receiver in the country and No. 8 in the state of Maryland according to 247Sports.
