Pair Of Florida State Football Targets Commit To Other Programs

Two more prospects are off the board, including one four-star recruit that was expected to visit the Seminoles later in June.

Rising seniors around the country are continuing to make recruiting decisions as they prepare for their final seasons at the high school level. With the addition of the Early Signing Period, more prospects are putting an emphasis on entering the season committed to a college program.

Florida State has already hosted eight official visitors in June with six more recruits coming in this weekend; five-star cornerback Charles Lester III, four-star safety Zavier Mincey, four-star wide receiver BJ Gibson, four-star cornerback Ricky Knight III, three-star defensive lineman Alex January, and three-star defensive back Kevin Levy.

The coaching staff has stayed busy fleshing out the defensive back board on the recruiting trail under new position coach Patrick Surtain Sr. On the flip-side, tight ends coach Chris Thomsen has seen recent success with more good news potentially on the way.

Earlier this week, two prospects that the Seminoles have been involved with committed elsewhere. Four-star cornerback Kensley Faustin pledged to Auburn just days after an official visit while four-star tight end Walter Matthews committed to USC following a west coast trip last weekend.

Faustin picked up an offer from Florida State earlier this year but never stopped by campus in the spring. He was scheduled to officially visit Tallahassee June 23-25 prior to his commitment to Auburn. At this point, it appears that the trip is unlikely to occur.

The Seminoles will turn to a deep cornerback board that includes five-star Charles Lester III, four-star Jamari Howard, four-star Wardell Mack, four-star Cai Bates, and four-star Jameer Grimsley, among other prospects.

Matthews visited Florida State in January and April after developing a bond with tight ends coach Chris Thomsen. However, the program appeared to be moving in a different direction after flipping five-star prospect Landen Thomas from Georgia while closing in on four-star prospect Kylan Fox. Both prospects are scheduled to officially visit Florida State nxt weekend.

Florida State holds 11 verbal commitments in its 2024 class. The haul ranks No. 11 in the country according to 247Sports.
