Son Of Former Florida State Head Coach To Visit Tallahassee As A Recruit This Weekend
There are only a couple of days remaining until Florida State takes the field in Doak Campbell Stadium for the first time in 2023. The Seminoles have been making early preparations to take on the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on Saturday night.

Outside of getting a chance to play in front of the fans in Tallahassee, FSU will also be opening its doors to host recruits on gameday visits. The Seminoles are expecting to bring in a multitude of prospects this weekend, including at least one name that will sound familiar to supporters of the program.
The son of former Florida State head coach Willie Taggart will be in the stands to watch the team face off with Southern Miss. JT Taggart, a 2025 defensive end out of American Heritage (Delray Beach), announced his intentions to make it to the game this weekend on social media.
Taggart is a teammate of #Tribe24 kicker pledge, Jake Weinberg. This will be his first trip to Tallahassee for a visit since March 21, 2022. Taggart was supposed to drop by Florida State earlier this year but ended up having to postpone the trip. He was at Penn State last weekend to view the Nittany Lions' victory against West Virginia.
Standing at 6-foot-5, 220-pounds, Taggart has yet to earn a scholarship offer from Florida State. Programs such as Miami, Colorado, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, FAMU, and Eastern Kentucky have already joined his recruitment.
The elder Taggart coached at Florida State from 2018-19, compiling a 9-12 record in 21 games. The Seminoles had a record streak of 36 consecutive bowl appearances snapped during his first season with the program.
Since moving on from Tallahassee, Taggart spent three seasons as the head coach at Florida Atlantic. The Owls chose to go in a different direction in November after failing to make a postseason appearance during the last two years.
Since then, Taggart was hired by the Baltimore Ravens as running backs coach, joining John Harbaugh after previously working with his brother, Jim, at Stanford. He will coach his first game with the Ravens on Sunday when the majority of NFL teams kick off their seasons.
