Two More FSU Football Targets Commit Elsewhere After Officially Visiting Tallahassee In June

On the bright side, the Seminoles have already landed a pair of pledges this month.

The Seminoles are setting themselves up for a fruitful July after landing two pledges in the 2024 class on Saturday. With that being said, Florida State simply can't win every recruitment and there will be prospects that decide to take their futures to other programs. That's just the reality of the game.

Over the weekend, a pair of recruits that officially visited Tallahassee last month committed elsewhere. Three-star defensive tackle Alex January chose Texas while four-star defensive back Jameer Grimsley picked Alabama.

January picked up an offer from the Seminoles in February and ended up taking an unofficial visit in April. He returned to campus last month but the Longhorns got the final visit in June. Plus, January is a Texas legacy, his father was a linebacker for the program in the 1980s.

Though the move doesn't come as a big surprise, it's another blow to an interior defensive line board where the Seminoles haven't made a ton of traction. Three-star prospect Jamorie Flagg remains committed but the coaching staff is hoping to add a bigger fish like four-star Kamarion Franklin or four-star Artavius Jones into the fold. Three-star D'Nas White visited Tallahassee for the Elite Camp last month.

Grimsley was offered by Florida State in February and didn't waste any time stopping by campus the following month. He chose the Crimson Tide after officially visiting the Seminoles, North Carolina, Penn State, and Michigan in June.

The Seminoles landed four-star cornerback Ricky Knight III to begin the month. The coaching staff has also made traction with multiple other prospects that can play in the defensive backfield including five-star Charles Lester III, four-star Jalewis Solomon, three-star Rydarrius 'Red' Morgan, and three-star Kevin Levy.

Florida State holds 13 verbal commitments and the No. 16 recruiting class in the country according to 247Sports.
