Athens, GA --The Bulldogs won convincingly this late afternoon, 78-60, over the North Flordia Ospreys. The win raises the Dawgs to 9-3 and continues their undefeated home game record, which is now 8-0. Meanwhile, the Ospreys are now 7-8 overall and 1-5 away.

The Ospreys were able to open up the first half strong with a 10-3 run sparked by a layup at the buzzer by Nste Lliteras. This was the first in a series of on-and-off runs by each team. UGA then answered back with a 7-0 run to tie the score 10-10. Immediately after, North Florida went on a 10-2 run, which ended with 11:48 left in the period. The Dawgs responded within the minute with a 17-0 run that ended with 5:55 left in the period and brought the score to 20-29. Senior guard for the Dawgs, Jabri-Abdur Rahim, was a major contributor to this run with two back-to-back 3-pointers and three made free throws. Following this dominant run for the Dawgs, the Ospreys put up some points while the Dawgs expanded upon their lead for a final first-period score of 45-29 with UGA on top.

Despite each team going back and forth on runs and each holding leads (North Florida’s peaking at 8 points, UGA’s at 16 points), the Dawgs established a clear command of the game. The Dawgs outperformed the Ospreys in field goals, shooting 58.3% on 24 attempts compared to North Florida’s 35.3% from inside the arch on 34 attempts. Notably, UGA also went 7 for 7 on shots from behind the arch and only committed nonshooting fouls. In addition to his performance during the Dawgs’ big run, Jabri Abdur-Rahim had 18 total points in the first period. This is in comparison to North Florida’s leading scorer in the first half, Dorian James, who only had 8 total points in the first period.

In the second period, the Dawgs were all about game management, keeping and slightly expanding upon their lead. UGA’s lead peaked at 21 points with 7:05 left, but the Dawgs only outscored the Ospreys 33-31 in the second period for a final score of 78-60. On another note, two redshirt freshmen for the Dawgs, Jaden Newell and Brandon Klatsky, were able to get on the court for a few minutes to close out the game.

Each team had big standouts for the game, for North Florida specifically, it was Chaz Lanier. Lanier performed according to his current season averages, with 16 total points and 3 assists. Jabri Abdur-Rahim continued to have a strong presence for the Dawgs with 18 total points, and graduate student center Russle Tchewa also performed along season averages with 6 rebounds today.

With their performance today, the Dawgs expand upon their largest win streak over second-year coach Mike White; the win streak is now seven games in a row. The Dawgs will face their last game before conference play starts in over a week on December 20th at 2:30 PM EST.
