Georgia Expected to Hire James Coley as WR Coach
Just after losing Dell McGee to Georgia State to be their next head coach the Bulldogs have filled another staff position. Reports have surfaced that the Georgia Bulldogs are expected to hire James Coley to be the team's next wide receiver coach, per Matt Zenitz at 247 Sports.
Former wide receiver coach Bryan McClendon recently took a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the organization's wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. If Georgia does indeed hire Coley, it will be his second stint with the Bulldogs' football program under head coach Kirby Smart.
This is not the first time Coley will have been the receivers coach at Georgia. From 2016-2017, Coley held that same role before switching over to quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Since leaving the Bulldogs after the 2019 season, Coley has made a stop at Texas A&M to be wide receivers coach and then switched to tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator. He was just recently hired to be South Carolina's wide receiver coach this next season but is now expected to make the move back to Athens.
While his time as the offensive coordinator may not be remembered with grace, there's no ignoring what he has accomplished as a coach over the years on the recruiting trail. He has consistently recruited at a high level in the SEC, which is something that the Bulldogs could use at the wide receiver position.
