ESPN Analyst Says Georgia is "Vulnerable" Ahead of Ole Miss Game
ESPN's Paul Finebaum has made a career out of riling up fan bases around the Southeastern Conference with his unfiltered and often controversial takes on the league's teams and coaches. Ahead of the looming top-10 matchup between No.2 Georgia and No. 9 Ole Miss in Athens this weekend, Finebaum appeared on "McElroy and Cubelic In the Morning" and shared words of warning for the Bulldogs as they prepare to host another key SEC matchup between the hedges of Sanford Stadium
While Georgia will be riding a 26-game win streak into the matchup with Ole Miss, the Bulldogs were pushed deep into the fourth quarter by a strong Missouri team last week. That most recent outcome combined with closer-than-expected wins over South Carolina and Auburn earlier in the season has led Finebaum to question whether the Bulldogs can continue their unbeaten streak. Georgia entered halftime with a 14-3 deficit against South Carolina in week three before rebounding to outscore the Gamecocks 21-0 in the second half. Two weeks later, the Bulldogs traveled to The Plains and could not pull away from Auburn until late in the fourth quarter.
Ahead of its second of three consecutive top-25 matchups, Finebaum suggested that, while he has been impressed by the Bulldogs' ability to pass every test to date, Kirby Smart's team is "vulnerable" this weekend against the Rebels.
“I think they are vulnerable,” Finebaum proclaimed. “What I’m impressed with Georgia is they’ve been tested a number of times now and they’ve passed. But this is in no way a standalone team that is not unbeatable. We know that. This has happened too many times.”
Despite his belief in the mortality of this Georgia team, Finebaum professed, given their track record, he still expects the Bulldogs to find a way to win. However, the ESPN analyst explained that Ole Miss Head Coach is the wildcard that has the potential to give the Rebels an edge in the key SEC matchup.
“They are vulnerable this weekend. I like Georgia in the game but Lane Kiffin is the guy that, sometimes, is the most dangerous,” Finebaum explained. “In big games? Lane Kiffin has had some bizarre moments this year, especially in the Alabama game. But he is also capable of throwing a perfect game."
Entering Saturday's game, Georgia may indeed, as Finebaum suggests, be more vulnerable than they have been at any point over the course of the last three seasons, but in order for Ole Miss to take advantage of that vulnerability, the Rebels will have to overcome history and beat the Bulldogs in their home stadium, a feat that no team has accomplished since 2019.
