Kirby Smart arrived in Athens in 2016 with the mission to elevate a proud but underachieving program to the next level of national championship contention. After consecutive College Football Playoff national championships, Smart has blown the lid off of the Bulldog program and, according to one Power 5 head coach, has distinguished Georgia from not only its college football peers but some NFL teams, as well.

With 30 years of college football coaching experience on his resume, Houston Head Coach Dana Holgerson has seen a variety of powerhouse programs come and go. However, while speaking to reporters at Big 12 Media Days on Wednesday, Holgerson explained that what Kirby Smart has built at Georgia is very different from, not only its contemporary peers, but NFL teams as well.

"I've been to Alabama, I've been to a lot of NFL places. What they're doing right now at Georgia is on a whole other level," Holgerson said according to Football Scoop's Zach Barnett.

While it may seem outlandish at first blush, with the Georgia program producing back-to-back national championships and record-breaking NFL draft numbers over the past two seasons, it's difficult to argue with Holgerson's assertion in the current context of the college football landscape. After an uneven start to the Kirby Smart era in 2016, the Bulldogs have gone 63-10 over the past six seasons and, more recently, have won 33 of the program's last 34 games, with those 33 wins coming by an average of 27.7 points per game and only 4 of the victories coming by single-digit margins.

Houston Head Coach Dana Holgerson spoke to the media at Big 12 Media Days on Wednesday, 7/12 and remarked on how Georgia has pulled away from the pack.

To Holgerson's point, the Bulldogs are poised to enter the 2023 college football season as the favorite to win what would be an unprecedented third-consecutive College Football Playoff national championship.
