Georgia Football's Best SEC on CBS Moments
This week the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide will face off in what will be the final SEC matchup broadcasted on the television network CBS. The station's nearly 25-year partnership with the conference saw some of the most iconic moments in all of sports history.
With the end of an era near, we decided to take a look at some of Georgia's most iconic moments during "The SEC on CBS".
5. Georgia's Domination of LSU in the 2005 SEC Championship
Heading into the game as underdogs, the No.13 Georgia Bulldogs shocked the college football world when they dominated the third-ranked LSU Tigers in Atlanta. Led by star quarterback DJ Shockley, the Bulldogs trounced the Tigers by a score of 34-14 on their way to the Sugar Bowl. The game featured plenty of iconic Georgia highlights such as DJ Shockley's touchdown scramble and Tim Jennings's pick-6 to put the game away.
4. Georgia's 2013 Thriller Against LSU
A top-ten showdown in Athens with numerous NFL stars. The Bulldogs triumphed in Athens by a score of 44-41 in a game that featured a handful of iconic moments such as Aaron Murray's go-ahead touchdown pass to Justin Scott-Wesley, Geogria's fourth down stand to put the game away, and an extremely emotional Mark Richt during the post-game interview. For many reasons, this game was renowned by Georgia fans as the best environment Sanford Stadium had ever seen.
3. D'Andre Swift's 2017 SEC Championship run
During the 2017 SEC Championship, freshman running back D'Andre Swift's 64-yard touchdown run gave the Bulldogs a 28-7 lead over the Auburn Tigers and effectively put the game away. Paired with Brad Nessler's iconic call of the play, Swift's run at the time was one of the most iconic moments of the Kirby Smart era and still is today.
2. Georgia's "Crank That" Dance During First Blackout
Dawning the iconic "blackout" jerseys for the first time in program history, the Bulldogs' 2007 win over the Auburn Tigers became even more iconic when cameras showed Georgia players dancing on the sideline to Soulja Boy's "Crank That" following a commercial break. CBS Broadcasters Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson even joined in on the fun.
1. The Gator Stomp
After suffering two straight losses to the Florida Gators, Georgia head coach Mark Richt devised a plan to get an excessive celebration after the Bulldogs' first touchdown of the game. After running back Knowshon Moreno dove over the goal line for the first score, the entire Georgia Bulldogs bench ran onto the field to celebrate in what is now known as "The Gator Stomp". The Bulldogs would go on to win the game 42-30 and the moment would become one of the most iconic moments of the storied rivalry between these two teams.
