STATS: Brock Bowers Potential to Become the Greatest Tight End Ever

Georgia tight end Brock Bowers has the opportunity to statistically become the greatest tight end in college football.

Georgia football's 2023 roster is loaded with weapons on both offense and defense, but perhaps no other player is as daunting as tight end Brock Bowers. Since his impressive freshman campaign, Bowers has become the centerfold of Georgia's offense and has evolved into one of the best players in all of college football. Now heading into his junior, and likely final, season, he has the opportunity to become the greatest in the sport's history.

Two seasons into his career, Bowers has racked up 1,824 receiving yards and 24 total touchdowns. If we include his rushing yards as well, Bowers has accumulated 1,989 total yards from scrimmage over the last two seasons. That puts him on pace to finish his junior season with 2,983 total yards, which would enter his name at the top of the history books when it comes to the tight end position.

Bowers breaking Pitta's record would be a major accomplishment, and it would pile onto his list of records that he already holds. Another one being that Bowers was the first tight end over the last 53 years to have 20 touchdown receptions in his first two seasons as a college football player.

Bowers has even littered himself all over the Georgia history books, with one more season still remaining before he is draft-eligible. He is currently averaging 60 receptions per season, and if he were to replicate that in 2023, he would have the third most career receptions in Georgia history. Last year he had the second most receptions in a single season in program history with 63. He is also just ten touchdown receptions away from tying the all-time career program record.

After the 2022 season, Bowers took home the John Mackey Award, which is annually given to the nation's best tight end for that season. Now heading into the 2023 season, Bowers appears to be the strong favorite to take home the national for a second time, and if he does, he would be the first player to ever win the award multiple times.

With how decorated of a player Bowers will likely be when he makes his departure from the Georgia football program, many are eager to see just how high he will go in the NFL draft. Regardless of where teams will have his value slotted out, it's hard to deny that he will likely end his college career as one of, if not, the greatest tight ends in college football history.
