The Limited History Between Georgia and Florida State
The Bulldogs and Seminoles. Arguably two of college football's most recognizable brand names, each with a long history of greatness in the sport. But although the two teams have had their share of successes on the field, the two teams have rarely ever shared the field itself.
The 2023 Orange will be just the 12th time these two teams have faced off, with the most recent matchup taking place more than 20 years ago. The Bulldogs currently lead the all-time series 6-4-1.
While it has been more than 20 seasons since these two teams have faced each other, it did not always use to be this way. In fact, the two teams used to meet annually. Beginning with their first matchup in 1954, the Seminoles and Bulldogs did battle in the regular season annually until 1965. The two teams would not meet again until the 1984 Citrus Bowl, a game that resulted in a 17-17 tie.
Since their 1984 matchup in the Citrus Bowl, Georgia and Florida State have shared the field just once with their most recent contest taking place in the 2002 Allstate Sugar Bowl. Where a young Mark Richt bested his mentor Bobby Bowden 26-13 and helped the Dawgs finish with their highest ranking since the 1983 season.
Georgia and Florida State will add another chapter to their limited history book on Dec. 30 when they face off in the 2024 Capitol One Orange Bowl. The Bulldogs are currently heavy favorites despite the Seminoles' undefeated record.
