Here's the statement released to the media Monday morning:

"Brock Bowers sustained a high ankle sprain during the Vanderbilt game in Nashville over the weekend. Surgery will be performed today (Oct. 16) to stabilize the ankle and a full recovery is anticipated."

The injury occurred in the second quarter of Saturday's contest against the Vanderbilt Commodores and the decision to have surgery was made on Monday afternoon following an extensive evaluation process, sources tell Dawgs Daily. Multiple opinions from multiple doctors were sought after and the final prognosis was to have the minor tightrope surgery in hopes to have Bowers fully healed and prepared for postseason play.

Bowers's absence over the next several weeks will be mostly filled by the combination of sophomore tight end Oscar Delp and freshmen Lawson Luckie and Pearce Spurlin at the tight end position.
