Dawgs Daily is here in Nashville, Tennessee, for this week's slate of SEC Media Days. Coaches and players from all 14 teams in the conference will be taking the podium to speak about the upcoming season and to provide a glimpse of what this year has in store for their program prior to the 2023 college football season being kicked off.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, LSU, Texas A&M, and Misso were the first ones up on the schedule for Monday to get things rolling. During Sankey's time at the podium, Dawgs Daily asked him what impact he expects from the recent rule changes, but more specifically, the clock no longer stops on first downs. He had this to say -

“College offenses are quick, everything happens so rapidly now. I think people need to study - meeting with John McDaid tomorrow, that’s about learning and making sure everyone understands how the new rules will operate.”

“Part of the learning experience is you reduce a number of plays in a game. It an attempt to speed up the game in order to keep the game moving - an interesting pace, that’s my invention not the committees. “

Commissioner Sankey then made comments about Jim Thorpe's biography he recently read and had this comment regarding the history of football and the recent changes -

"the passing game is inserted 100 years ago into college football, yet we still have elements of the rules from 100 years ago that guide our thinking - and I think it's an appropriate update."

SEC Media Days continue until Thursday, July 20th. Kirby Smart, Brock Bowers, Sedrick Van Pran Granger, and Kamari Lassiter will be at the podium Tuesday, July 18th.
