Justin Fields Talks About Infamous Fake Punt in 2018 SEC Championship Game
Quarterback Justin Fields has been a part of some major moments during his football career. Some glorious, others infamous. One of the most infamous moments of Fields' career came in the 2018 SEC Championship game when the quarterback was a part of a terribly executed fake punt attempt against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Nearly five years after the ill-famed play Fields was asked on an episode of "Pardon My Take" as to what lead to the decision to go for it on what was 4th and 11 at the time. While Fields did not provide a rational behind the call, he did make it known that he was hesistant it would work at the time.
"In that time, when he [Kirby Smart] said that play was coming up. I was about to ask him 'Coach are you sure?' But at that time the competitor in me was just like 'Hey, he called the play so let's go.' But I was this close to asking..."

The fake punt would end up being Fields' final paly as a Bulldog as he would enter the transfer portal following the Bulldogs' loss. He would eventually end up playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes the next two seasons where he would once again be defeated by Bama during the 2021 national championship. Fields was selected as the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears.
