The diamond sports are back in play, and Georgia's baseball and softball teams have dominated their competition. The baseball team is off to a 4-0 start, sweeping their series against UNC Asheville and lighting up the scoreboard against Georgia State yesterday. Still, it is the Lady Dawgs on the softball team who have truly been spectacular.

After starting their season with an undefeated 9-0 record, Georgia sits at No. 3 in the latest NCAA rankings after starting the season at No. 6 in the preseason polls. Their first three games were against Murray State, South Dakota, then Murray State again, where they outscored opponents 17-0. They then had a two-game series against Purdue, outscoring them 11-2 in the two games.

The Lady Dawgs then took a trip to the Tampa Bay area for the Clearwater Invitational. Their first game was against Wisconsin, where they went into extra innings, pulling away and winning in the 10th, 7-6. They then played the No. 8 team in the country, Oklahoma State, winning by a final score of 7-4. The next game was against the No. 19 UCLA Bruins, where they yet again defeated a ranked team, this time by a final score of 7-2. The next game was their most dominant of this entire weekend when the Lady Dawgs defeated the now No. 11 Lady Seminoles by a final score of 20-10, run-ruling Florida State to defeat them in the fifth inning compared to the seventh inning.

Sydney Kuma and Madison Kerpics lead the Lady Dawgs into the "Georgia Classic" this weekend, where they host three teams. They start the weekend with a doubleheader against No. 21 Virginia Tech, then move to Radford, and then round the weekend out with Dartmouth.
