Kirby Smart Issues a Statement On Jalen Carter Charges
Georgia football coach Kirby Smart has issued a statement in the wake of the news surrounding the warrants issued for star defensive tackle Jalen Carter in relation to the January 15th fatal crash that took the lives of two members of the Georgia Football family.
Smart issued the following statement Wednesday after police reports showed that Jalen Carter was part of an ongoing investigation where he was operating the second vehicle in a manner "consistent with racing" according to Athens Clarke-County police.
"The charges announced today are deeply concerning, especially as we are still struggling to cope with the devastating loss of two beloved members of our community.
We will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities while supporting these families and assessing what we can learn from this horrible tragedy."
Jalen Carter was supposed to meet with the media today, with this news dropped mere minutes before he was scheduled at the podiums. Now, he faces two misdemeanor charges in Athens Clarke-County court according to a Clarke County spokesperson.
Carter was projected to be a potential top-3 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
