REPORT: Michigan Spent Over $3k Scouting Georgia Football
The Michigan Wolverines and head coach Jim Harbaugh are in some hot water due to a recent opening on an NCAA Investigation into a potential sign-stealing operation that has seen reports surfacing that they went outside of the NCAA Rules and bylaws to steal the signs of future opponents.
In an article released by the Washington Post on Wednesday, it was reported that one of the most visited teams by the Michigan sign-stealing operation was Georgia, a program that they visited multiple times, according to reports.
The opponents targeted the most on this schedule, these people said, were not surprising. Atop the list was Ohio State, Michigan’s top rival in the Big Ten, and scouts planned to attend as many as eight games, costing more than $3,000 in travel and tickets. Next on the list was Georgia, a potential Michigan opponent in the College Football Playoff, with four or five games scheduled for in-person scouting and video-recording, also costing more than $3,000 in travel and tickets. - Quote From Post Report
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart mentioned on Tuesday that there were no obvious signs that Georgia's signs had been stolen in there massive CFP playoff win over the Michigan Wolverines.
"I never heard of anybody going to games and filming, all that stuff. I've never known anyone to do that," Smart said. "When I grew up with my dad, you went and watched other high schools play and drew up their plays while they were doing it. That was pre-cell phones and probably pre-signals because guys sent plays in. As far as in-game, I think guys try to steal signs."
The story from the Washington post would go on to state that Michigan was scheduled to spent upwards of $15k this season on advanced scouting.
