Just a few days after the Georgia Bulldogs had ten players taken in the 2023 NFL draft, another former Bulldog continued to make his mark at the professional level. Andrew Thomas has spent the last three seasons with the New York Giants and the organization announced today that they will be picking up Thomas' fifth-year option in his contract. This keeps Thomas under contract with the Giants through 2024.

The Giants originally drafted Thomas in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft with the fourth overall pick. Since then, the former Georgia offensive lineman has accumulated 44 starts over the last three seasons and started in every single game except for the season finale in 2022. He also was on the field for every single offensive snap in all but two games last year. Thomas was named Second-Team All-Pro by the Associated Press following the 2022 season.

The Bulldogs have been very successful over the past few years when it comes to developing NFL-caliber talent at the offensive line. Since 2017, Georgia has had four offensive linemen taken in the first round of the draft, and eleven players selected overall. For context, during the 14-year stretch prior to 2017, the Bulldogs had ten offensive linemen drafted during that time period and just one player selected in the first round.

In his final season at Georgia, Thomas was named a first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC. He remains one of the program's all-time offensive linemen and has turned into a bonafide starting left tackle at the professional level. Thomas's current contract with the Giants has him earning over 32 million dollars, and in 2024 his base salary will jump up to over 14 million which is what makes the Giants picking up his fifth-year option such a huge deal for the former Bulldog.
