Eagles Want to "Win Big - Like Georgia"
The Philidelp[hia Eagles won the hearts of Dawgs fans on Day One of the NFL Draft by drafting former Dawgs Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith ninth and 30th overall. Carter and Smith will join former teammates Jordan Davis and Nakobe Dean in Philly, which had the NFL world on fire last night.
Following the draft last night, Eagles GM Howie Roseman and HC Nick Sirianni spoke to the media, mentioned how they want to build a winning culture, and mentioned multiple times how Carter and Smith were "winners." Sirianni mentioned how when he met Carter, he saw his competitive nature in a game of HORSE, when Carter did a flat-footed windmill dunk, and goes on to mention how "connected" the Eagles locker room was.
Sirianni mentioned that this connection is good for Smith and Carter to step into because "winning teams have that connection, and they are coming from a program in Georgia where that connection is the same." Smith also knows this, as we hear in a recent video from the Eagles on Twitter.
The video showed Roseman, Sirianni, and Owner Jeffery Lurie's phone conversation with Smith when they selected him with their 30th pick in the first round last night. Roseman mentions to Smith about his alma mater, the University of Florida, and how "it hurts him taking all these Georgia guys," Smith had the perfect response 'you wanna win though, you wanna win!" Mr. Lurie mentioned this as well stating "we're used to working hard and we win big - just like Georgia," Smith emphatically replied, "that's what I want."
You can see this trend in the Eagles' draft process over the last four years, selecting National Champions Jalen Hurts and Davonte Smith, who won at Alabama. Then last year, with their first-round selection of Jordan Davis and their third-round selection of Nakobe Dean, who won the national title with Georgia in 2021. Now this year, with Carter and Smith. The Eagles want to win and win now, just like Georgia.
The NFL Draft continues tonight, with three former Dawgs finding their homes on night one; plenty more will find their new homes throughout the night and weekend.
