Position Battles: Who Will Be the Next Georgia Kicker?

With Jack Podlesney off to the NFL Draft, the Georgia Bulldogs will have to find  a new placekicker for the 2023 season

During Kirby Smart's time with the Georgia Bulldogs, the team has been the beneficiary of some elite kicking talent. Names such as Rodrigo Blankenship and Jack Podlesney have been major contributors to the Bulldogs' successes over the years and have made some massive field goals in their time with the team.

However, with the departure of Jack Podlesney to this year's NFL Draft. The Bulldogs will look to find the next kicker to maintain the team's productivity in special teams.

In the offseason, the Bulldogs signed 3-star kicker Peyton Woodring out of Lafayette, Louisiana. However, the no.1 ranked kicker from the 2023 class will have an uphill battle to the starting position. As there are multiple kickers

However, as of now, sources indicate that the front-runners to be the Bulldog's next placekicker are junior Jared Zirkel and sophomore Noah Jones. Jones is currently listed on the roster as a punter, but played was a standout as a kicker in high school. While Zirkel has already made somewhat of a name for himself during last season's "G-day" game where he kicked a game-winning 27-yard field goal to give the Black team a 26-23 victory over the Red team.

As the spring position battles continue, the Bulldogs' "G-day" game will serve as a major indicator to both fans and coaches as to what the roster will look like come the fall of 2023.
