BREAKING: University Announces The Firing of Baseball Coach
ATHENS -- Georgia's athletic director Josh Brooks announced a change in leadership over the Diamon Dawgs Friday afternoon. Head coach Scott Stricklin will be let go ten years into his 13-year contract.
Brooks had this to say about the change, "After much thought and deliberation, we feel it is in the best interest of our baseball program to move in a different direction. We will begin immediately the process of a national search to identify the next leader of our baseball team."
The Diamon Dawgs wrapped up their 2023 season this past Tuesday in the first round of the SEC tournament, being eliminated by LSU. The Dawgs had a 29-27 record on the year and went 11-19 in SEC play. Stricklin will be finishing his career posting a 299-236-1 overall record. While heading the team, he led them to the NCAA tournament three times, in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
With high expectations for this season, Stricklin fell short of them. A young and talented squad will be under new reigns this time next year and is looking to put its name back into the conversation of national contenders.
