Get to know 2025 Offensive Line Recruit Cortez Smith

A dive into 2025 offensive line recruit Cortez Smith and his recent recruitment surge in the past couple of months.

When it comes to recruiting, Georgia is one of the best in the business. They annually recruit at arguably the highest level in the sport. The amount of talent that is in the Bulldogs' backyard has a lot to do with that as the state of Georgia is a hotbed for prolific high school football prospects. One of the most recent names that have surged onto the recruiting scene is offensive lineman Cortez Smith.

The Lilburn, Georgia native has seen his college recruitment really pick up over the past couple of months. Since January of this year, Smith has picked up offers from Texas A&M, USF, UCF, Auburn, Arkansas, and LSU. The University of Georgia has also recently gotten itself involved in this recruitment Smith was recently on campus and has made himself a player to watch for Georgia fans.

Georgia has consistently rolled out good offensive line units. Since 2020, Georgia has had seven offensive linemen taken in the NFL draft, two of them being first-round picks and they've been in the running for the Joe Moore award for two seasons in a row. The big guys up front are what holds an offense together, and Georgia has both developed and produced at a high level at that spot despite having two offensive line coaches over that time span in Matt Luke and Stacy Searels.

Smith has visited Athens several times in 2023 and is starting to gain a lot of interest from quite a few SEC schools including Georgia. Smith was one of many recruits to come take a look at Georgia during their national championship ceremony in the month of January. He was recently back at Georgia to take in a bit of Georgia's practice, something that left him with quite an impression.

Smith said he said the thing that stood out most about the unit was how much they were being held accountable. "They are being held accountable for each detail on their position on the offensive line." Smith went on to say that it was "simply awesome" to get to watch them get after it in practice.

Here's what SI All-American recruiting analyst Brooks Austin  had to say about Cortez Smith the football player:

"He's the cleanest, can't-miss prospect at the center position since Sedrick Van Pran in 2020. My first introduction to him as a high schooler was at the invite-only Under Armour Camp Series in Atlanta where he, as a then-freshman in high school, stood toe to toe with then rising senior and current Georgia Bulldog Jamaal Jarrett in one on ones. He's the rare combination of physical giftedness, competitive work ethic, and technique required at the center position to be great at a young age. These are the types of interior building blocks you set core foundations around at the highest levels in college football"
