Georgia Tech has finally landed on its new pitching coach.

According to Kendall Rogers at D1Baseball.com, Georgia Tech is going to be hiring Matt Taylor to be the program's new pitching coach. Taylor has spent the last year as the assistant pitching coordinator for the Atlanta Braves and was also previously the pitching coach at Georgia State.

This is an interesting hire for Danny Hall and he needs it to be a success or it could be the last hire he makes while the head coach of the Yellow Jackets. Under former pitching coach Danny Borrell, Georgia Tech was one of the worst pitching staffs in the ACC and Tech has squandered some talented teams due to their inefficiencies on the mound.

Georgia Tech finished the season 30-27 and is going to miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2018 season. Hall has not made it out of a regional since 2006 and that is incredibly disappointing given the amount of talent that Georgia Tech has had over the years.

Borrell had been the pitching coach since 2019 after coming over from the New York Yankees organization and in those seasons, Georgia Tech has finished 10th (2020), 13th (2021), 13th (2022), and 13th (2023) in ERA in the ACC.

Here was athletic director J Batt's statement on the firing of Borrell and the retaining of Hall from a few weeks ago:

“Everyone associated with our program is disappointed that this season didn’t meet the high standards that we all have for Georgia Tech baseball, as I know our fans are too. “I have full faith in (Head) Coach (Danny) Hall as the leader of our program and I support his decision to make this change on his staff. All of us are appreciative of Coach Borrell’s efforts over the past four seasons and we wish him and his family nothing but the very best.

“Coach Hall is one of the very best coaches in college baseball. I’m looking forward to continuing to support him as he works to get our program back on the path to Omaha (Per Georgia Tech PR).
