Georgia Tech was unable to carry over the momentum from their victory over Clemson during the week and lost to Virginia at home.

It was another result in what has been an inconsistent first season for Damon Stoudamire. Georgia Tech looks like a good team in most games they play, but they have had a hard time finishing games and after a strong first half, they could not keep up that same level of play and lost at home to the Cavaliers.

So what should be the key takeaways from this game?

1. Second Half Three-Point Shooting Was Poor

A pretty obvious point, but the second half three-point shooting from the Yellow Jackets was a big reason they could not come back and defeat Virginia.

They were not shooting lights out in the first half, but 41% is nothing to sneeze at. That fell off to 26.7% in the second half and that was a reason that Georgia Tech could not cut into the second-half lead. Virginia shot the ball well from deep and Isaac McKneely had 14 second-half points.

2. Georgia Tech did not have an answer for Isaac McKneely in the second half

McKneely finished with 20 points in the game, but it was his second-half performance that really made the difference for Virginia.

At the half, McKneely only had six points, but he proceeded to shoot 5-8 from the field and 4-6 from deep in the second half. Anytime Georgia Tech seemed like they were going to cut into the lead, it was McKneely who kept UVA in front and ultimately won them the game. Georgia Tech could not matchup his production.

3. Turnovers and points off turnovers made a big difference

Georgia Tech only had a few more turnovers than Virginia, but they made the difference in the game. Virginia scored 21 points off of 13 Georgia Tech turnovers, while the Yellow Jackets only scored nine points on nine Virginia turnovers. Georgia Tech could not take advantage of the extra opportunities that Virginia gave them and that helped result in a loss.
