Georgia Tech hopes to see a significant improvement on offense after being one of the worst in the country in 2022. The Yellow Jackets were 125th in the country in scoring offense, 109th in passing offense, and 91st in rushing offense. Things have not been kind to Georgia Tech on that side of the ball for the past four seasons, but there is hope for a brighter future ahead.

Buster Faulkner arrives at Georgia Tech after spending time in Athens as a quality control coach on offense, but he has previous playcalling experience elsewhere. He is the coach tasked with turning around one of the nation's worst offenses last year and FootballScoop.com named Faulkner one of the most important hires of 2023.

Faulkner spoke about his time in Athens last week and how it has helped him as a coach:

"I mean I have learned from everybody that I have ever been around and I think that is the beauty of coaching, it is one big fraternity, we talk to guys all over the country and reach out but obviously Coach Monken was a great mentor of mine and a great friend so anytime that I need something, I call him and ask a question and he can be a guy I lean on.

But I learned a lot and we have got guys in here that have been places and we are always learning from each other and that is something that we take a great deal of pride in. One thing about our staff is that we have great communication and we are building our own offense. This is going to be Georgia Tech's offense."

Faulkner's first task is going to be finding out who his starting quarterback is. Georgia Tech has a battle going on right now between Zach Pyron, Texas A&M transfer Haynes King, and Zach Gibson. Faulkner spoke about the ongoing battle between the three players and made it clear that there is not going to be an announcement soon:

"First of all, he has to be the toughest guy in the building. In this day and age with the media and everything else, you have a lot to handle. Tough, a great leader... the beautiful thing about Coach (Chris) Weinke and I, we see it the same way. We did not know each other seven months ago and then we talked about quarterbacks and it was spot on, so we are aligned as far as that goes.

As far as the race, we are going to have all three guys getting reps, all three are getting an opportunity to play and whoever come out on top, you guys will know when we know or maybe even the first play of the game, but we are in no hurry to announce it, that is for sure."

There is no doubt that Faulkner is one of the most important hires that head coach Brent Key made this offseason and Faulkner is going to be put to the test from the start against Louisville in week one.

Georgia Tech kicks off its 2023 season against Louisville on Sept. 1st at 7:30.
