Each year before the season begins, CBS Sports ranks every FBS team in college football. This year, they ranked teams 1-133 and Georgia Tech finds themselves starting in the back half of college football.

CBS Sports put the Yellow Jackets at No. 74, which was 11th in the ACC only above Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Boston College.

While 74th is not where fans want to see their program, I think Georgia Tech has a chance to perform better than that this season.

Most preseason polls are low on the Yellow Jackets heading into the season, including the ACC media poll which was released last week. Georgia Tech was voted to finish 12th out of 14 teams. Brent Key was asked about this after practice last week and this was his response:

"I could care less, they could less, I could care less. Games are played on the field and I know it is that time of year when it is exciting to see the rankings and see those things and have a lot of good talking points for the next three or four weeks and that is what makes college football a passion and that is what it is, its the passion for the people that cover it, it is a passion for you guys, it's what yall do and helps you put information together but it means nothing to me. If I was not coaching I would be right there with you guys, reading them all and making the predictions, but not for us. Those external things have zero factor on how we come out and practice everyday."

Key does not mind that his team is being counted out by many this year and is waiting for the chance to show the improvements his team has made.

The top ten of the CBS Sports 133 was led by Georgia Tech rival Georgia at No. 1. Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, Alabama, USC, Penn State, Florida State, Clemson, and Washington make up the rest of the top ten.

Georgia Tech kicks off the 2023 season against Louisville on Sept. 1st at 7:30 on ESPN.
