Georgia Tech vs North Carolina: Live Updates from Atlanta

Georgia Tech is aiming for another upset of the Tar Heels tonight in Atlanta

It's time for another Georgia Tech Football Saturday!

After dropping a 38-23 decision to Boston College last Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field, Georgia Tech is looking to continue its season-long pattern of alternating losses and wins. Tech also alternated wins and losses over the final four games of last season, meaning it has not had the same result in consecutive games since it lost back-to-back contests to Virginia and Florida State on Oct. 20 and 29 of last season.

North Carolina is coming into this game 6-1 after a shocking loss to Virginia and the Tar Heels can't afford another loss if they want to stay in the ACC title picture, especially with Louisville beating Duke today.

Georgia Tech is looking to try and get back in the win column and get closer to their first bowl game since 2018. They will be doing so as near two-touchdown underdogs, but we have seen Brent Key and his teams thrive in that role.

Pregame

True freshman wide receiver Eric Singleton was announced as a starter on the video board. Singleton had an illness last week and did not play. This does not mean he is definitely playing but it is a good sign at least.

1st Quarter

North Carolina wins the toss and defers. Georgia Tech will get the ball to start.

Georgia Tech has to punt it away and North Carolina will take over

Touchdown North Carolina. Drake Maye finds his tight end and the Tar Heels take the lead 7-0 with 9:31 left in the first quarter. Not an ideal start for the defense

After stopping Georgia Tech on 4th down, UNC drives 46 yards in six plays to take a 14-0 lead with 4:30 to go in the first. Terrible, terrible start for the Yellow Jackets defense.

Georgia Tech's defense finally gets a stop and North Carolina has to punt. GT tackes over at their own 31-yard line with 12:57 left in the first half.

Touchdown Georgia Tech! King finds Malik Rutherford for a 42-yard score and the lead is down to 14-7 with 11:32 left in the half. Huge answer for the offense

Touchdown UNC. British Brooks runs it into the end zone to make it 21-7 with nine minutes to go in the first half

Touchdown Georgia Tech! Haynes King finds Brett Seither on the fourth down to cut into the lead UNC now leads 21-14.

Touchdown Georgia Tech! King finds Rutherford for his second touchdown catch of the game and it is now tied 21-21!

irr's 40-yard field goal attempt was good and Georgia Tech was only trailing 28-24 heading into the half against the No. 17 Tar Heels.

At the half, Georgia Tech had an astounding 360 yards, including 268 from King and the passing attack. King was 20-24 for 268 yards and three touchdowns and most importantly, no interceptions. After his struggles in the last three games, it was good to see King playing how he is capable.

Singleton had a monster first half, reeling in eight passes for 117 yards. Rutherford caught six passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns.

The offense averaged 7.5 yards per play and won the time of possession battle.

North Carolina had a great first half on offense as well though. The Tar Heels racked up 287 yards of offense, including 139 through the air and 148 on the ground. North Carolina was averaging nearly seven yards per rush.

A 16-yard touchdown run from Drake Maye extends the lead to 35-24 with 6:03 to go in the third quarter.
