It is championship Sunday in the NFL and two former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are going to have a chance to punch a ticket to the Super Bowl.

Harrison Butker is playing in his sixth straight AFC Championship game today with the Kansas City Chiefs. Butker has been one of the best kickers in the NFL for the past few seasons and he has been crucial in keeping the Chiefs alive this postseason. He is 6-6 so far in the playoffs and in what might be a close game against the No. 1 seed Baltimore Ravens, Butker could be an X-Factor tonight.

In the other game tonight, two former Georgia Tech running backs are going to be facing each other. Jordan Mason and the 49ers are going to be hosting Jahmyr Gibbs and the Lions. Gibbs and Mason once shared a backfield together in Atlanta and now they will face each other in hopes of getting to the biggest stage.

Mason was an instant contributor from the time he stepped foot on campus back in 2018 for Georgia Tech. On just 108 carries in 2018, Mason totaled 659 yards and had seven touchdowns, while averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Mason had his career-best year in 2019, Geoff Collin's first year in Atlanta. He totaled 172 carries for nearly 900 yards and seven touchdowns. His yards per carry dropped, but Mason was the most effective player on the Georgia Tech offense.

Gibbs spent his first two seasons as a collegiate player in Atlanta playing for former Yellow Jackets head coach Geoff Collins. Gibbs came to Georgia Tech as one of the top recruits in the country and is one of the highest-rated recruits that has ever signed and played with Georgia Tech. He was a member of the 2020 recruiting class that also included former Yellow Jackets quarterback Jeff Sims, who transferred to Nebraska this offseason.

During his career on The Flats, Gibbs ran for 1.206 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 5.2 yards per carry. He also caught 60 passes for 773 yards and five touchdowns. He was one of the fastest and most electric players in the country, despite the team not having the kind of record most had hoped for when Gibbs signed with the Yellow Jackets.
