Senior Bowl Director Jim Nagy Talks Keion White on Gramlich And Mac Lain Podcast
The NFL Combine is one week away and two Georgia Tech players, Keion White, and Charlie Thomas, are going to be hoping to raise their NFL Draft stock in Indianapolis.
White is the highest projected Georgia Tech player in the 2023 NFL Draft and many draft analysts have White as a projected first-round pick. He is expected to test well at the Combine next week and he is coming off a great week in Mobile at the Senior Bowl.
The director of the Senior Bowl is former NFL Scout Jim Nagy and he got to see White up close and personal in Mobile. He joined the Gramlich and Mac Lain Podcast today and here is what Nagy had to say about White:
"Going back to the tape against your Clemson Tigers, there were a couple of rushers on that tape where... you know, you faced guys like this, you stimy the first move and cut off the first move and this guy... he just has natural counter ability. He has feel for it and he has the athleticism so he can string moves and that is really cool to see and then when you see him out in the open field running with people. The Georgia game sticks out, the Virginia game sticks out, where they are running wheels down the sidelines and he is running down the field with Kenny McIntosh from Georgia and that is just... which is crazy so again, I tie it all the way back to when we saw Keion for the first time back at ODU... and this young guy kept popping off the tape and when you are not looking for a guy and someone keeps popping off to the point where you have to google his name and figure out what year he is and that is what happened with Keion.
That tape I was watching was the first year he was playing defense, he was playing tight end the year before at ODU and his first year playing defense, he had 19 tackles for loss, which tells you, the guy has instincts. When you have 19 tackles for loss, you are finding the football. Fast forward three years later and he is 292 LBS and he runs like a deer and has natural pass rush. I was actually talking to (NFL Network's) Daniel Jeremiah and he said "This kid from Georgia Tech is really good" and I was like yeah he is really good and he starts naming some players that he thinks he is better than some guys that are being talked about as top ten picks and I was like, yeah I agree with you and I said, please don't put that out on the internet before we get out to Mobile and so in the middle of the week, he pushes out this like top 50 list and he has Keion at like No. 8 overall player in the draft. Keion had a great week, he helped himself."
I think going to a staff that is really open-minded and creative with him and uses him because his versatility is pretty unique. There are some guys that are tweeners and can play different fronts and play different alignments and certain fronts but I would let this guy float and stand up in the A gap, he can get pressure from any alignment, he can play in an even front or an odd front, but again, whatever front he is in, I just, just let him use what he's got and I think the best coordinators will do that and I am not saying he is (Cowboys linebacker) Micah Parsons at all, I am not making that comparison, but the way that (Cowboys defensive coordinator) Dan Quinn uses Parsons and turns him loose, I hope he ends up with a team that does that with him."
Both White and Thomas will work out at the NFL Combine next Thursday, March 2nd.
