Georgia Tech Softball Defeats Kennesaw State 5-3
After playing through the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, Georgia Tech Softball was back in action tonight against Kennesaw State and the Yellow Jackets were hoping to bounce back from their losses this past weekend and beat the Owls.
Chandler Dennis was the starting pitcher tonight for Georgia Tech tonight.
The game did not start out how Georgia Tech had hoped. Dennis gave up a walk and then a home run the next play. The Owls led 2-0 early and the Yellow Jackets were going to have to come from behind.
It did not take long for Tech to answer though. The bottom of the first went Georgia Tech's way and it started with a single from Emma Kauf, who then stole second. Sarah Beth Allen brought in Kauf with an RBI single and the lead was cut to 2-1. Mallorie Black was hit by a pitch, which advanced Allen to second and the Yellow Jackets had two runners on with one out.
Madison Dobbins walked to load the bases for Georgia Tech and then Abby Hughes had a two-RBI single for the Yellow Jackets to take the lead 3-2. Overall it was a productive inning for Georgia Tech and they went to the second inning with a lead.
The Yellow Jackets held Kennesaw State to zero runs in the top of the 2nd and hoped to add to their lead at the bottom of the inning. That would not happen though and the game went to the third inning still 3-2.
Tech would not score again until the bottom of the 4th and that is when they started pulling away from Kennesaw State. After Vukadinovich singled, Kauf hit a two-run home run.
After Dennis gave up the home run early in the game, she really settled in and had a nice game and through five innings, that was the only hit she allowed.
Faith Alexander singled for Kennesaw State and then stole second to put the Owls in scoring position and it looked like Kennesaw State was going to make this a game again. Kinsey Norton would take over for Dennis pitching and then a single loaded the bases for the Owls with one out. After striking out one batter, a wild pitch gave the Owls a run and it was then 5-3. A ground out on the next at-bat ended the inning and Georgia Tech left with a 5-3 lead still.
Auburn Dupree singled in the bottom of the 6th to get a runner on for Georgia Tech, but that would be all. The game would go to the top of the 7th and the Yellow Jackets were hoping to end the game.
It was a pretty easy inning for the Yellow Jackets and they got out of the game with a 5-3 win.
Georgia Tech is back in action this Friday against Boston University as part of the Queen City Classic in Charlotte (NC). The game will be at 12:30
