Georgia Tech Baseball Up To No. 22 In Collegiate Baseball Rankings

Georgia Tech Baseball began the season with a sweep against Miami (OH)

After sweeping Miami (OH) this past weekend, Georgia Tech baseball is now up to No. 22 in the latest rankings from Collegiate Baseball.

The Yellow Jackets' offense was stellar all weekend, scoring 36 runs in three games and starting the season undefeated. Jake DeLeo was one of the top players in the country over the weekend, hitting three home runs and totaling six RBIs.

In the other major College Baseball rankings, D1 Baseball, Georgia Tech is still currently unranked.

There are six other teams from the ACC included in this week's top 25. Louisville (5), Wake Forest (6), Miami (8), North Carolina (13), Virginia (15), and Florida State (25) are the other teams from the conference that are ranked.

LSU is ranked No. 1

Not only was Tech ranked No. 22 by Collegiate Baseball, but they also named DeLeo one of their players of the week. Here is what they had to say about DeLeo's performance over the weekend:

"DeLeo belted 3 home runs during a 3-game series against Miami (OH) and collected 6 RBI as he scored 6 times."

Overall, this was a good first series for the Jackets and it is good to see them rise in the rankings. Yes, the pitching was up and down throughout the weekend, but that's to be expected from a team that already had unproven arms in its rotation and bullpen. It was encouraging to see that the Jackets were able to put up points and the defense looked mostly solid in all three games outside of a few mental lapses.

DeLeo, Stephen Reid, Drew Compton, and Angelo Dispigna all had really nice hitting performances throughout the series while McGuire looked absolutely dominant in his start on Saturday.

It is still early in the season, but the Yellow Jackets are off to a 3-0 start and will look to remain undefeated tomorrow night against Georgia Southern. First Pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. in Statesboro
