Georgia Tech vs Florida Tech: Preview and Score Prediction
The end of February is usually reserved for conference games and getting ready for the upcoming conference tournaments. That is not going to be the case in Atlanta today as Georgia Tech is going to be welcoming Florida Tech for a non-conference matchup.
Florida Tech (16-10, 9-9 SSC) is a member of the Sunshine State Conference and is a Division II school. After a 14-4 start to the season, the Panthers come to Atlanta having lost six of their last eight games, including the last three in a row, to fall into sixth place in the Sunshine State standings (Per Georgia Tech PR).
Georgia Tech is actually playing its best basketball of the season right now. In the past four games, Georgia Tech is 2-2 in their last four games since losing to Louisville and they could be 3-1 if it were not for some questionable officiating calls in the loss to Wake Forest. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a win against Virginia Tech and hoping to win their second game in a row.
Georgia Tech finishes out the regular season by playing three of its final four games on the road, facing the current ACC leader, Pittsburgh, on Tuesday. After the Jackets’ final home game Saturday against last-place Louisville, they travel to eighth-place Syracuse and 10th-place Boston College in the final week (Per Georgia Tech PR).
Tech is No. 2 in the ACC in three-point defense and is 37th nationally, allowing 30.6 percent from distance. Tech is No. 2 in the ACC in bench scoring, with its reserves contributing 19.5 points per game this season. The bench has provided 30 or more points six times this season and has outscored its opponents’ reserves in 14 of 26 games (Per Georgia Tech PR).
One of the biggest reasons for this small turnaround is the offense being better. Tech has been above 100 points per 100 possessions in each of its last three games (Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech), two of which the Jackets won and the other they lost by one point.
Georgia Tech is currently 196th in the KenPom ratings.
In a lot of Georgia Tech games this season, there has been a huge discrepancy in free throw shooting, but the Yellow Jackets broke that streak in their last game against Virginia Tech. Tech went 14-of-26 from the free throw line to Virginia Tech’s 4-of-8, the first time since Jan. 7 at Florida State, a span of 11 games, that the Yellow Jackets attempted more free throws than an opponent (Per Georgia Tech PR).

Score Prediction:
This is a game that I want to see the Yellow Jackets continue to show efficiency on offense, but leave the game with no major injuries and see some of the deep bench players get some playing time. Getting out ahead early and staying ahead to never give the Panthers a chance is going to be crucial. Georgia Tech should win this one big.
Final Score: Georgia Tech 82, Florida Tech 47
