Georgia Tech Softball Loses 6-3 to Wisconsin

Georgia Tech gave up three runs in the seventh and lost to Wisconsin 6-3

Georgia Tech Softball has started the season 3-2 and is coming off of a big win against in-state rival Georgia State. The Yellow Jackets would have to face off against the team that eliminated them from the postseason last summer, as Wisconsin made the trip to Atlanta.

Blake Neleman was the starting pitcher for the Yellow Jackets today.

It was a slow starting game for both teams. Wisconsin did not allow a hit through the first two innings and Neleman only gave up one.

In the top of the third though, Wisconsin got on the board first. Katie Keller hit a home run and that gave the Badgers the 1-0 lead. Georgia Tech was having a hard time hitting anything that Wisconsin threw, but they would find a breakthrough in the fourth inning.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, Sarah Beth Allen came to the plate and hit a big solo home run to tie the game. It was just the second hit of the game for the Yellow Jackets and it was a much-needed hit.

It would not be long before Wisconsin struck back though.

A sacrifice fly from Keller gave the Badgers the lead back and then an RBI single made it 3-1.

Georgia Tech would not go away though and in the bottom of the sixth inning, Emma Kauf hit a solo home run that cut the lead to 3-2. Georgia Tech was unable to get much going on offense outside of the home run ball today, but they have plenty of hitters to do just that. Not long after, Grace Connelly joined the home run party and tied the game 3-3.

After tying the game though, things went a little sideways for Georgia Tech in the top of the 7th inning.

Wisconsin started with a solo home run to retake the lead 4-3 and a walk would later result in a two-run home run for the Badgers. It was 6-3 Wisconsin and after Georgia Tech had worked so hard to get back into the game, Wisconsin was able to take it all back quickly.

Georgia Tech could not make any magic happen in the bottom of the 7th inning and lost 6-3 to Wisconsin.

The Yellow Jackets are now 3-3 and have a double-header set for tomorrow. They will take on Wisconsin again at 3:30 and then Illinois at 6:00. Both games are part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
