Updated ACC Standings Heading Into Saturday's Games
It is going to be another full Saturday of ACC Basketball action.
The season is winding down and the standings are getting tighter and tighter heading into the ACC Tournament. There is a close battle at the top and more throughout.
So how do the standings look heading into today's games?
Georgia Tech got a nice win against Virginia Tech on Wednesday and that moved them ahead of Notre Dame in the standings. That might not seem like a big deal, but it might mean a more favorable matchup in the first round of the Conference Tournament for the Yellow Jackets. This team has been playing well in the last four weeks and has a non-conference
At the top, Pitt and Virginia are tied at 12-3. Virginia is hosting Notre Dame today and Pitt is traveling to Virginia Tech. I think it is likely that Virginia gets a win today and Pitt will be favored, but Virginia Tech has pulled upsets and a win is not a given for the Panthers.
Miami is right behind both UVA and Pitt at 12-4 and takes on Wake Forest today in one of the biggest games in the conference. Clemson has taken a tumble from the top of the standings and sits at 11-4, just one game behind in the standings. The Tigers have lost three of their last four, but got a 40-point win over Florida State this past week and should get another win today against last-place Louisville.
NC State is currently 10-6 in the ACC and takes on in-state rival North Carolina tomorrow. The Wolfpack are a projected eight seed in the NCAA Tournament according to the latest update on ESPN's bracketology.
Duke, Wake Forest, and Syracuse are all 9-6, and the Blue Devils and Orange face off tonight on ESPN. That will be a big matchup in terms of seeding in the ACC Tournament.
North Carolina is in ninth place at 8-7 and needs to start winning if they want to return to the NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels are still holding on to a bye in the ACC Tournament.
Boston College and Florida State are at 6-10, with Virginia Tech at 5-10. The Eagles and Seminoles play each other today in Tallahassee.
Georgia Tech (3-13), Notre Dame (2-13), and Louisville (1-14) make up the bottom of the conference.
