Gonzaga's Braden Huff named WCC Freshman of the Week

Redshirt freshman earned his third weekly honor of the season

After scoring a career-high 26 points on Saturday, Gonzaga Bulldogs redshirt freshman Braden Huff took home his third West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week honor on Wednesday.

Huff led the charge off the bench in the Bulldogs' 105-63 win over San Diego, as he finished with 26 points on 12-for-17 shooting from the floor in 20 minutes. That surpassed the 23-point outing he had earlier this season against Eastern Oregon for the most points, field goals made and field goals attempted in his young career.

Over Gonzaga's last two games on the road, Huff averaged 17.5 points and made 16 of his 22 field goal attempts (72.7%) in wins over Pepperdine and San Diego.

The 6-foot-10 post has tied Portland's Tyler Harris for the most WCC Freshman of the Week honors this season with three. The Pilots' 6-foot-8 guard won consecutive freshman awards to start the season before earning his third on Jan. 8. Harris leads all WCC freshmen in scoring at 12.3 points per game while Huff is not far behind at 11.4 points per game.

Others nominated for this week's freshman honor include San Francisco's Ryan Beasley, Pepperdine's Nils Cooper, Portland's Bol Dengdit and San Diego's Kevin Patton Jr.

The WCC Player of the Week was awarded to sophomore forward Joshua Jefferson of Saint Mary's. Jefferson recorded his third double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Gaels' 77-60 win over San Francisco on Saturday. Three different Gaels have won the Player of the Week award.
