Bulldogs host Broncos in a pivotal WCC clash

The Gonzaga Bulldogs ride a five-game winning streak into an important West Coast Conference battle with the Santa Clara Broncos.

Gonzaga (21-6, 11-2 WCC) enters the matchup fresh off an 86-65 win over Portland on Thursday. Graham Ike posted his seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds while Nolan Hickman continued his hot stretch, finishing with 19 points on 4-of-8 shooting from 3-point range. The Bulldogs shot 50.7% from the field and had 21 assists on 35 made field goals.

With the victory, Gonzaga improved to 16-0 this season when scoring 80 or more points and 15-0 when it shoots 50% or better from the field. The Bulldogs lead the WCC in points per game (85.8) and field goal percentage (51.4%).

Santa Clara (18-10, 9-4 WCC) looks to keep pace in the league standings amid a three-game win streak. The Broncos downed Loyola Marymount, 65-55, on Thursday with Adama-Alpha Bal and Brenton Knapper back in the lineup after missing the last one and two games, respectively. Junior forward Johnny O'Neil led the way with 15 points.

Bal, who missed three games with an undisclosed injury, leads the Broncos with 14.6 points and 3.2 assists per game. Carlos Marshall Jr. adds 12.8 points per game while shooting 42.3% from beyond the arc.

Santa Clara dominated the glass to knock off Gonzaga, 77-76, in the first matchup this season. The Broncos outrebounded the Bulldogs 44-31, while Bal capped off the night with a game-winning bucket in the final seconds. Gonzaga shot 2-of-20 from deep in the defeat.

Anton Watson is set to be honored as the lone senior in the final home game of the season. The 6-foot-8 forward needs just two points to surpass Gonzaga legend and fellow Spokane native John Stockton for 26th place on the program's all-time scoring list. Watson is No. 2 in steals behind Stockton and is in the top 10 in all-time rebounds.
