Gonzaga (30-5) is in the Sweet 16 for the eighth consecutive year and is the only program in the nation to accomplish that feat. The Bulldogs are now on the doorstep of making it to their sixth Elite Eight in school history.
UCLA (31-5) secured its third consecutive Sweet 16 berth with wins over No. 15 seed UNC Ashville and No. 7 seed Northwestern in the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
This will be the fourth time the Bulldogs and Bruins have faced off in the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga owns a 2-1 advantage after winning the last two matchups.
The last time these two teams met in the NCAA Tournament was in 2021 and it was an instant classic.
The Zags won a thrilling 93-90 matchup in the Final Four to advance to the national championship for the second time in program history and did so in dramatic fashion as Jalen Suggs hit the game-winner from near half-court as time expired.
To get past UCLA once again, Gonzaga will likely need a big game from Drew Timme. The senior All-American has 253 total points in the NCAA tournament, which makes him the Bulldogs' all-time leading scorer in the tournament as well as ranks him 24th all-time in NCAA history.
Timme was just named a finalist for Naismith Trophy, but he will have a tough task on his hands Thursday as UCLA is one of the best defensive teams in the nation. The Bruins are allowing an average of just 60.2 points per game this year, which ranks them sixth in the country.
On top of its strong defense, UCLA poses a formidable offensive threat. Jaime Jaquez Jr. leads the team in scoring (17.5 ppg) and rebounds (8.1 rpg), while Tyger Campbell averages 13.4 points and just under five assists per game, and boasts the fifth-best assist-to-turnover ratio (3.11) in the nation.
