Following the news of Bryan Ellis' resignation as Georgia Southern's offensive coordinator, the Eagles moved quickly to fill Ellis' spot. The program announced this week that Ryan Aplin has been promoted to the OC position, as well as quarterbacks coach.

Aplin spent the last two seasons as the team's tight ends coach and pass game coordinator. Aplin was one of head coach Clay Helton's original additions to the staff when Helton was hired and helped the GSU program transition from a triple-option to their current offense. Georgia Southern finished #9 in FBS in passing yards per game in 2023 (304.7).

"We are excited to announce the elevation of to our Offensive Coordinator position," Helton said in a statement released by the university this week. "Ryan has been an integral part of building a nationally ranked offense over the past two seasons as our passing game coordinator. He also will be moving to our quarterback room where he was a two-time conference MVP at the position. I look forward to watching Coach Aplin take our offense to even greater heights."

G5 fans may also recognize Aplin as a former Arkansas State quarterback. With the Red Wolves, Aplin led his team to Sun Belt Conference championships in 2011 and 2012. He was also Sun Belt Player of the Year in both of those seasons.

"I am extremely excited for this opportunity and grateful for the trust and faith Coach Helton and administration have in me," Aplin said in the aforementioned statement. I'm excited to keep things rolling and can't wait to get to spring ball."

Georgia Southern's spring game is scheduled for April 20 at noon ET.
