Grambling's Mickey Joseph Wants To 'Restore The Order' and 'Structure'
HOUSTON — Grambling State University's Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Dr. Trayvean Scott, announced the appointment of Mickey Joseph as the program's seventh head football coach. Joseph became the 15th head coach in the history of the Grambling State University football program. He follows in the legendary footsteps of Eddie G. Robinson Sr., who retired in 1997 after becoming the all-time winningest collegiate head football coach, posting a 408-165-15 record.
"We're going to restore the order," Mickey Joseph remarked at the introductory press conference. "They need to fear Grambling, and that's what we set out to do."
Grambling State president Richard Gallot stated, "After an extensive and thorough search process led by a dedicated search committee, I'm confident that we have identified the right leader to guide our football program to new heights."
Joseph served as the wide receivers and special teams coach at Grambling State University from 2014 to 2015. From 2008 to 2011, he worked as an assistant coach for the Langston University Lions. He also served as head coach at Langston University from 2011 to 2013. The Alcorn Braves hired him in 2013 as an assistant head coach. He was responsible for coaching wide receivers and special teams. He has a 16-13 record as a collegiate head football coach.
"Coach Joseph is a great communicator. He's authentic," Dr. Scott said of the new coach. "He builds great relationships, and his players he builds great meaningful relationships and develops his staff and his players. He's a student of the game. He knows the game. He's a tireless worker, a dynamic recruiter with strong ties throughout the state, East Texas, through Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and nationally."
President Richard Gallot and Dr. Trayveon Scott express their confidence in Coach Joseph to lead the program to new heights, with a focus on academic and athletic excellence. Coach Joseph is committed to bringing back dominance to Grambling football by prioritizing integrity, passion, and player development.
"I also want to thank the Grambling legends - Meshach, Shack, and Doug. The G-Man nation, The entire GramFam family. When I was here, they were good to me and my family, and they will continue to be that because we're going to continue to be good to them."
Coach Joseph's first message was steeped in understanding the Grambling legacy. It possessed the enthusiasm and tenacity of a Louisiana-bred former football player and coach. "Expect passion, intensity, and a team that never gives up until the final whistle." Hopefully, Coach Joseph's tenants will get the G-Men back to football prominence.
We shall see.
